Malaysia’s Past-Year GII Rankings


The Global Innovation Index (GII) ranks world economies according to their innovation capabilities. Consisting of innovation indicators, grouped into innovation inputs and outputs, the GII aims to capture the multi-dimensional facets of innovation.

The target

Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025


The Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 (Twelfth Plan) aims to address current issues and at the same time to restart and rejuvenate Malaysia's socioeconomic development for long-term sustainability and properity. It is intended to enable us, as Keluarga Malaysia, to move forward by restructuring the economy as the foundation in improving the wellbeing of the rakyat. This Plan with the objective of 'A Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable Malaysia'.

" The Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) has set the target for Malaysia to rank 20th in the Global Innovation Index in 2025 "


How it works

The GII has two sub-indices which is the Innovation Input Sub-Index and the Innovation Output Sub-Index, and seven pillars, each consisting of three sub-pillars.
